Family Dinner

This program's tradition is that family friends host a group of students in their home. This allows us to learn more about the Italian culture while feeling a part of a community. We were fortunate enough to be invited by Alessandro's family. Alessandro is the legal advisor for the program, so we've gotten to know him a bit over this past week. It is a custom to bring a gift when being welcomed into one's home for a meal. We got to meet all six of his kids, along with his fantastic wife. It was such a surreal experience that I wouldn't take it for granted. It was a moment full of fellowship and community. His wife prepared us a wonderful meal. It was a moment I wish I could experience over and over. Being able to disconnect from our phones, conversate about our passions and goals, and share similar interests is very special. In Alessandro's living room, his walls were covered with art he had collected from each study abroad semester from years back. He said that he tries to buy at least one art piece that sticks out to him at the end of the semester showcase. I found this to be very unique and special. He also shared his wedding photos with us and gave us a little background story about meeting his wife. The whole experience was very eye-opening and authentic.
